MSSNY Advocacy Day and An Announcement of the CAP Pathologists Leadership Summit
posted: March 27, 2023
The Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) held its Physician Advocacy Day on March 14. This annual event brings physicians from across the state to learn about MSSNY’s advocacy agenda and hear from state lawmakers and regulators. Due to inclement weather in Albany, (number) participants joined this year’s event virtually.
As the state legislature puts together the upcoming budget, some of MSSNY’s budget priorities, relevant to pathology and laboratory medicine, include:
- Increased Medicaid reimbursement to be closer to Medicare levels.
- Extending the Excess Medical Insurance Liability Program.
- Requiring health insurers to pay into a Health Insurance Guaranty Fund to ensure payment of medical claims in the event of a health plan insolvency.
- Opposing expanded liability awards for wrongful death lawsuits which can lead to increased malpractice insurance premiums.
NYSSP supports the MSSNY legislative agenda. We encourage our members to join MSSNY, contribute to the MSSNY-PAC and participate in MSSNY advocacy efforts as they arise.
To learn about pathology advocacy at the federal level, please plan to attend the College of American Pathologists annual Pathologists Leadership Summit scheduled for April 15-18 in Washington. DC. The agenda includes the semiannual House of Delegates Meeting (all are welcome to attend), updates on pathology practice and advocacy issues, and an opportunity to meet with your Congress members on Hill Day.
