Join MSSNY In Opposing Wrongful Death Liability Expansion

In 2022, the New York State Legislature passed legislation which would expand liability awards for wrongful death. Unfortunately, this would have included wrongful death due to medical malpractice, and actuarial studies at the time predicted up to a 40% increase in malpractice insurance premiums. Governor Hochul vetoed this legislation in January, 2023.

A revised version of wrongful death liability expansion passed the legislature last June and will soon go to Governor Hochul for her signature. Despite the revisions, little was done to address the issues raised last year. Please reach out to the governor’s office encouraging her opposition to this bill, because legal remedies for grieving families should not come at the expense of healthcare in New York State.
