MSP Urges the Missouri Congressional Delegation to support S. 3314 and H.R. 6020
posted: December 9, 2021
On Thursday, December 9, the Missouri Society of Pathologists (MSP) sent letters to the Missouri Congressional Delegation urging their support for S. 3314 and H.R. 6020 – the Supporting Medicare Providers Act of 2021. In addition to our delegation, letters were sent to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the committees to which the legislation has been referred.
These bills would extend the relief provided in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 through 2022 enabling pathologists and laboratory professionals to continue providing the necessary testing to fight this pandemic.
Pathologists and laboratory physicians across the country are leading the battle against the covid-19 pandemic, working tirelessly to serve the medical testing needs of all Americans. Our profession continues to face strong headwinds including test kit supply chain disruptions, shortages of testing staff, and a constantly mutating virus.
Under current law, dozens of physician specialties will face deep, across-the-board payment cuts on January 1, 2022, as a result of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 2019 E/M payment policy. These cuts and others, such as PAYGO and sequestration, will adversely affect our ability to provide quality care in such challenging times.
